Filmstream output
The Viper can be operated in Filmstream mode which offers an unprocessed 4:4:4 RGB signal directly off the CCD. The idea behind this is that it is better to perform colour correction functions (gain, colour balance etc) with professional post production tools rather than in real time on the camera. The Take2 can apply Lookup Tables to the monitor outputs in real time, which doesn't affect the recorded image. The CCDs are 14 bit, the output is 10 bit log from dual HD-SDI ports.

Sensors
The Viper is a 3 CCD camera. Each chip has a resolution of 1920 x 4320 for a total of 27.6 million pixels. That compares to only 6.2 million pixels on the Sony F900. Unlike single chip cameras, there is no interpolation 'guessing' the values between pixels, reducing edge colouration.
Output resolution
The Viper image sensors have a resolution of 1920 x 4320. Each pixel of output is recorded by four pixels of sensor. The extra pixels increase the detail in the final image, giving sharper images. The final output resolution is 1920 x 1080.

When filming in 16:9 aspect ratio, four vertical pixels are grouped. The camera outputs 1920 x 1080 images. The ISO is 400.

When filming 2.37:1 Cinemascope, three vertical sub-pixels are grouped together and the camera outputs 1920 x 1080 pixels (which are wider than they are tall). Standard 1080p cameras crop the image to 1920 x 817, giving the Viper a vertical resolution advantage of 33%. The Take2 has a setting where the outputs can be squeezed, so that the correct cinemascope aspect can be viewed. This doesn't affect the recorded image. The ISO is 350.

Mechanical shutter
The viper has a mechanical shutter, which gives it similar motion characteristics to film, and no vertical smear. The shutter can be adjusted from 90 to 312 degrees.
